Available Classes for In-Station Training

Course Name Course Description Hours
Basic Hydraulic Rescue Tools This basic course is designed to give the student a working knowledge of the Holmatro Rescue System. Highlights include the development of rescue tools, hydraulic concepts, and show & tell of the tools in your system and how to properly maintain your system. The course includes hands on experience in latest basic hydraulic tool rescue techniques and how they apply to doors, roofs, steering columns, dashboards etc. Plenty of hands on is made available to assist the student with proper spreading techniques, different cutting styles and getting the most out of rams. 8
Advanced Vehicle Extrication Part 1 This advanced course is designed to give the student scenario based training with more difficult extrication challenges. Each learning station involves the actual entrapment of a simulated patient. Removal on a backboard is required for successful completion. To maximize the experience, all equipment the fire company has pertinent to auto extrication is utilized. Teamwork and incident command are emphasized in order to improve the process of extrication in the real world. 8
Advanced Vehicle Extrication Part 2 "Putting it altogether" Taking the Advanced Rescue Part I to the next level, this program combines realistic practical evolutions and Rescue Scene Management. A short classroom session reviews Rescue Scene Management and Incident Command at a rescue scene. The practical session follows where teams are placed in scenarios utilizing dispatch and radio communications and face multiple vehicle/multiple patient crash incidents. The students are tested on their management skills as well as their rescue techniques. Integrating and working with EMS is an essential part of the program. By testing management, EMS and rescue all at the same time, the class creates a real-life learning environment, many times taxing the limits of the teams. Pre-requisites: Advanced Vehicle Part I. 8
Rescue Extrication Operations for Bus Accidents This program is designed to familiarize the participant with the complexities of rescue operations involving extrications from buses. The course will review the various types of buses, their construction features and differences. Participants will be introduced to the methods for stabilization, access, hazard recognition and control, triage,  victim disentanglement and preparation for patient care, packaging and removal. The  program will be  presented in a didactic and practical skills format to maximize  the participants ability to perform efficiently and effectively  when confronted with these type of rescue operations. Several  learning stations will be utilized  on the same bus to provide the participants with as realistic scenarios as possible. 8
Basic Vehicle Extrication

This is a basic course designed to be tailored to your company’s equipment and needs.  It will be conducted in a modular fashion where groups move through learning stations.  This course follows the minimum standards for acceptable practices for auto extrication and follows the steps of a rescue revolving around patient access, disentanglement and removal.

Vehicle Anatomy Training Series

Three Parts

The material in these lessons is designed to familiarize the student with the recent developments in the automobile industry related to occupant restraint systems and vehicle construction. Many different extrication techniques are emerging and changing, as rescuers become more aware of the recent and dramatic improvements in vehicle design related to the safety of the occupants. These programs will provide factual information that will educate the student regarding the location, identification and managing of these new components and safety systems.
The program is presented with Microsoft PowerPoint using a quantity of images, photographs, video’s, graphics and charts. Some of the vehicle components acquired by ESI are brought to the classroom for hands on familiarization. Several useful handouts are included for each student and ESI certificates will be issued for students who complete the programs.

Part I

Modern Vehicle Restraint Systems

Part I focuses on modern supplemental restraint systems and how the auto manufacturers have softened the inside of vehicles using various pyrotechnically deployed devices to increase the occupant’s chances of survival during a crash. It begins with analyses of the Dayton Ohio incident, continues with the brains and batteries behind modern restraint systems and finishes with helpful techniques for identifying, locating, disarming and working around airbag systems during an auto extrication.  3
Part II

Modern Vehicle Construction

Part II focuses on modern vehicle construction and how auto manufacturers have hardened their vehicles to maintain a survival space for the occupants during a crash.  It begins with a closer look at the harder materials used to create the hidden roll-cages and even harder material used to stiffen the high impact areas of the vehicle. It continues with different styles of frame construction and finishes with various ideas and useful extrication techniques to help the rescuer increase their success and put valuable time back into the Golden Hour. 3
Part III

Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Part III reviews the new Hybrid-Electric vehicles that are now in mass production at Honda, Toyota and Ford. The training focuses on identification of hybrid vehicles, similarities and differences between the manufacturers and then progresses into electrical shut down and extrication challenges. 3
Basic Hydraulic Rescue Tool - Review To review with currently certified Holmatro Rescue Tool users system and tool use in classroom and practical setting. This course is intended to reinforce and review operational procedures and various techniques related to the Holmatro Rescue Tool systems. Student Pre-Requisite: Each student applicant must have successfully completed an authorized eight-hour Holmatro/ESI basic Rescue Tool Training Program. Each student must be approved by the current chief or officer assigned to training in his/her organization. 3
High and Low Pressure Air Bag Training Proper set up and utilization of air bags. How to increase lifting and power by using cribbing, tilt lifting and stacking bags. Also a comparison of low and high-pressure bags and their performance differences. 3
Rescue Service Management Lecture/Chalkboard/Discussion are used to present a systematic approach to the vehicle rescue scene. Emphasis on answering the "Who is in charge?" question and organizing all responding departments and personnel. 3
